Lauren and Mark met at the Palace at Somerset Park while attending Mark's cousin's wedding. Lauren had attended college with Mark's cousin and the bride. During cocktail hour, Lauren caught Mark's eye and Mark asked his cousin to make introductions. Through conversation, they both found each other very interesting, felt a spark and spoke for the duration of the evening. They exchanged numbers at the end of the night and never imagined anything serious happening because Lauren lives in New Jersey and Mark lives in Florida. Five and half years later Lauren and Mark are tying the knot back where they met, at the Palace at Somerset Park.

Mark knew he wanted to propose around their five year anniversary. Mark met with Lauren's mom to brainstorm the perfect location. Lauren's mom suggested Stevens because if it wasn't for the school they would have never met. With that location in mind, Mark came up with an elaborate plan which involved her family and friends to surprise Lauren. Lauren is an Active Director for the Stevens Institute of Technology Alumni Association. Mark, found the staff member from the school who leads the Association and described to him his elaborate plan. With the aid of the staff member, Mark created a fake on-site meeting involving all of the alumni members. Emails were sent, and Lauren was on-board not knowing what was in store. Mark spoke with all of Lauren's family and contacted her closest friends to tell them about the plan and invite them to the surprise. On the day of the meeting Lauren met with the staff member first at a separate building where he then escorted Lauren to her surprise. As Lauren walked through the doors, music began to play and she was greeted by a long line of her friends followed by her family and finally standing in front of Mark. Standing there in shock, Mark went down on one knee and asked Lauren if she would marry him.
