After matching on Hinge (Thanks, Karen!) and messaging about the proper way to eat string cheese, a date was set for the Monday after Halloween in 2015. On Halloween, Hannah and her roommate, Emily, went out for a Halloween photoshoot at the Washington Monument in their onesie costumes. At the metro stop, Hannah caught a glimpse of a familiar face coming up the escalator. A moment of panic set in that the guy she had set up a date with would see her traipsing around in public in a onesie and find some kind excuse to call off the date. Mark saw Hannah, too, but wasn’t sure if it was really her. After a confirmation over text that, yes, they did just pass each other at the metro, they went about their Halloween plans. Hannah, in her red panda onesie, went to people watch in the city with Emily. Mark went to a party in the suburbs as Burt Macklin, FBI from Parks & Rec (even though he still hasn’t watched the show). After a while, Mark decided that he wanted to meet up a few days early and took the long metro ride to go hangout with Hannah and Emily. They both had a great night and kept their date for Monday. After a successful first (and half) date over bbq, they have been enjoying each other’s company and adventrous spirits.
As the end of grad school was on the horizon for Hannah, Mark was looking for his next job opportunity. When he found and accepted a great job in Milwaukee in Decemeber 2016, he wanted to be sure Hannah would consider moving with him after she graduated. He had picked up on Hannah’s everso “subtle” aversion to cold weather and knew it might be stretch. When he asked what he needed to do to help her make the transition, the answer was snow pants, a dog, and a spot in a garage. Mark came through with the snow pants that Christmas to get the ball rolling. That was enough of an assurance for Hannah. She made the commitment to move to Milwaukee in June, right before Mark moved up to camp for the summer. After he got back, he still let her park in the garage and a coworker helped them find the bestest pupper, Boomer.
