Mark and April met in 2014 through mutual friends. Mark's childhood friend Chase was marrying April's college friend Diane and the two were asked to be in the wedding party. Both Mark and April agree that they definitely caught each other's eye and even shared a first kiss the night before their friend's wedding, but ultimately the timing just wasn't right. It wouldn't be until September 2015 that the two would reconnect. Mark heard of the passing of April's mom and reached out to send his condolences. It was then that they realized the spark was still there and this time the timing was perfect.
Mark and April had a trip planned to NYC with their besties/matchmakers the Massingills. The plan was to celebrate Mark and Diane who's birthdays are a day apart. Even though she had been hinting at her desire to get engaged, April wasn't expecting it to happen on this trip. Mark pulled off the ultimate surprise by setting up a horse drawn carriage to take the group on a tour of Central Park to pop the question. Because they always joke about how April makes Mark stand on a certain side to take pictures, Mark said, "I don't care what side I stand on as long as you're by my side" and then got down on one knee on top of the Bow Bridge and asked April to be his wife. Everyone was in on it except for her. Mark even had a photographer staged there to capture the whole thing. That moment, those friends and NYC will always hold a special place in their hearts.
