After five incredible years together—filled with travel, food adventures, pickleball, and golf—we returned to one of our favorite places in the world: Japan. It was our second time exploring Tokyo, and this trip already felt special. But Mark had something even more unforgettable planned. Originally, he had envisioned proposing in Shinjuku Gyoen, a beautiful park known for its serene gardens and cherry blossoms. He had the moment all mapped out. But as love stories go, plans changed. Rain began to fall, and in a spontaneous twist, Alyssa’s sister-in-law had booked her a nail appointment at a tiny, hole-in-the-wall salon she’d discovered earlier—one of those charming, tucked-away places that Tokyo does best. After the appointment, with the skies still gray but the rain easing up, we continued exploring and stumbled upon Ueno Park—a spot on our list that hadn’t been part of the original plan for the day. The park was quiet, almost empty, and as we walked along a peaceful path by a small lake, we found a bench and sat down to take it all in. That’s when Mark knew: this was the moment. He reached into his pocket, heart racing, and asked Alyssa to spend forever with him. She was shocked, teary-eyed, and incredibly happy. And she said yes. As if the universe wanted to help us remember this moment forever, a kind passerby noticed us and offered to take a photo—capturing our joy, our love, and the beginning of our next chapter in the country that means so much to us. Japan gave us more than memories. It gave us a moment that will live in our hearts forever.
