On January 27, 2024—almost exactly 2.5 years before our wedding date— Mark & Monique miraculously met on the dance floor at a country swing event in Murfreesboro, TN, which happens to be Mark's hometown. The odds were completely against them making it to the event, but by the grace of God, they were both exactly where they were supposed to be. That Saturday night, Monique confidently stole Mark during a "steal circle" dance, and later brought him over to dance with her "Montana Mom," Lourina. In a strange twist of fate, the music suddenly stopped for over an hour. What could have been an awkward silence turned into an impromptu interrogation by Mama Bear! While Monique sat there mortified, Mark loved it. As he confidently answered questions and shared his journey with his faith, his career, and his business ventures, Monique’s heart began to soften toward him. The Flight Home & The First Date The connection was undeniable. The next evening, Mark asked Monique and her sister-in-law out to get "snacky-snacks." When they both flew back to Maryland the following day, Mark wasted no time asking Monique out on a real date and came to her hometown for dinner and more dancing. They bonded over their shared passions for dancing, traveling, hosting friends, cooking, playing sports, and building community. But most importantly, they bonded over a shared faith in Christ. Walking Through the Fire No relationship is protected from hardship, and theirs was no exception. But through the difficult seasons, they persevered and made individual commitments to deepen their walk with Christ. They diligently sought Godly counsel, fasted, began reading the Bible daily, received mentorship, pastoral care, and joined small groups within their church. Their story truly is a story of redemption. It is a picture of what it looks like when two very capable individuals try to pursue a future based on their own understanding, only for it to crumble overnight. But God is mighty and powerful and He allowed them to walk through the fire in order to receive the prized confidence that only He can provide—a peace that surpasses all understanding, designed to bring Him glory. The Next Chapter Because of that journey, we are stepping into this marriage with a profound, God-given confidence.
