Great ideas in & around Medieval Carlingford If you’ve never seen the Giant’s Causeway, Monasterboice, Titanic centre & much more – Carlingford provides a great base for exploring the immediate area and much more less than a 60 minute drive. Carlingford. www.discovercarlingford.com & www.carlingford.ie Carlingford is just a tree length away from our walled grounds & gardens - medieval streets, cafés, shops, pubs, bicycle hire (see below), restaurants, adventure centre, walks, Slieve Foy mountain walks, Carlingford Greenway - Carlingford is a great place to be based to explore the area! Boutique Shops 3 shops we recommend; Azure – ladies’ boutique (to the left of McKevitt’s) speak to Eileen Mia Mullen Jewellery 25 metres to the left of Azure – speak to Mia! (say Paul sent you!) McCrystal Antiques - for the men – mad antiques emporium – 5 metres to left of Mia’s. There’s also, just along from Taaffe’s castle is Garrett Mallon Design House – jewellery, art & much more! On the way, just along the pedestrianised street is Candyford – a great little sweet shop. And check out the other owner managed & run shops here in Carlingford – Lush, Craft Barn and others I’ve probably missed out! Easiest & cheapest – book online and use your ‘phone as your ticket! Leaves Greenore (near Carlingford) on the 1/2 hour, leaves the other side - Greencastle on the hour. Just Saturday & Sunday during September to Sunday 1st October & check their website for dates after that & 1st & last ferry of the day - usually 10am to 6pm. Leaves Greenore (near Carlingford) on the 1/2 hour, leaves the other side - Greencastle on the hour. All day. From Greenore to Greencastle - stunning trip across the entrance of Carlingford Lough - chance to see our resident dolphin - Finn. Cars, bicycles, foot passengers – from Greenore – which just 5 mins drive from Ghan House, 20 mins cycle and 45 mins walk – leaves at half past every hour, and from Greencastle on the hour. Very picturesque 20 minute ferry that traverses the European divide! At present passports/ID are not necessary. If with car/bicycle – great drives/cycles through the mesmeric Mourne Mountains - seek out Silent Valley, Spelga dam (also loos). Also beautiful drive along coast up past Newcastle, Ardglass (sweet fishing harbour off main road), another ferry at Portaferry and then up to National Trust property of Mount Stewart & gardens. Also good as foot passenger (you can park your car for free in Greenore) and have lovely beach walk along the Northern side – take a picnic with you! Also look out for ‘Finn’ – Greenore’s resident dolphin!
