Pro Football Hall of Fame
The Pro Football Hall of Fame is located in Canton, Ohio, for three primary reasons: (1) The American Professional Football Association, later renamed the National Football League, was founded in Canton on Sept. 17, 1920. (2) The Canton Bulldogs were an early pro football power, even before the days of the NFL. They were also the first two-time champion of the NFL, in 1922 and 1923. The great Jim Thorpe, the first big-name athlete to play pro football, played his first pro football with the Bulldogs, starting in 1915. (3) Canton citizens early in the 1960s launched a determined and well-organized campaign to earn the site designation for their city. The Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the Hall of Fame Village, are a big deal down here in Canton. The Village is growing with amazing restaurants and shopping for tourists.
McKinley Presidential Library & Museum
The Museum owns and cares for the McKinley National Memorial, where the 25th president of the United States William McKinley, First Lady Ida McKinley and their two young daughters are entombed. The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum is an ideal destination for families, as they have something for everyone. The facility includes the McKinley Gallery, featuring the largest collection of McKinley memorabilia in the world; the Street of Shops, a life-sized indoor 19th century town; the Stark County Story, a permanent exhibition exploring 200 years of local history; Discover World, an interactive science center; and the 65-seat Hoover-Price Planetarium.
MAPS Air Museum
MAPS Air Museum is an internationally known museum of aviation and serves as a center of aviation history for Northeast Ohio. The museum features exciting educational displays of its collection of acquired artifacts, interactive exhibits and historical archives in its own library.
