Marissa’s perspective: It was a Thursdays girls night for me and Sam. I just settled into my new life in Fort Lauderdale, excited about all the opportunities coming my way. A fresh start. As I ate my last piece of sushi and waved the waitress over for our check, I hear Sam say “there’s our new friends coming in!”I wait patiently as she directs them over to come sit with us. I’m familiar with the few guys who I’ve met in the last month of visiting Sam and moving down here, but tonight there was a new face to the crew. Wyatt, had just flown in from Vegas and decided to spend the night in Fort Lauderdale at his friends apartment, that’s conveniently above the same sushi restaurant we’re eating at tonight. He was a handsome man, blonde hair, blue eyes, not a bad sight to look at for someone who’s used to a certain look up north. Wyatt introduces himself, it was unnerving how confident he immediately was with me. I told him I was new to Fort Lauderdale, and before I could even finish- he stops me in my tracks to order himself a cocktail. “Can I have a sontory whiskey, neat” then looks back at me and says “you look like you’re a whiskey kind of girl” I’m baffled of how someone would assume that of me. I let out a deep sigh “I’ll have a vodka soda with a lime” I knew that night, I met my match. Wyatt’s perspective: I drove to Fort Lauderdale once a quarter to visit friends and family after graduating college. After meeting her, I found myself in Fort Lauderdale four times a month. I flew from Vegas to FTL. My friends and I unboarded, headed back to the apartment, and decided to get some food. Sushi Garage was the choice. We were meeting some new friends. Not knowing which table we were headed to, I scanned the room. A girl across the restaurant caught my eye. Unbeknownst to me, her table was the one we were walking towards. I introduced myself, sat down, and ordered a whiskey - neat. “You look like a whiskey girl,” I said jokingly. She isn’t - the joke didn’t land. Even so, I could tell there was intrigue. Enough intrigue to carry us through three years of a loving relationship and a marriage next year. This was the day I met Marissa - my future wife.
