We’re getting MARRIED!!!!

It was a chilly November evening at 336 Main in downtown Plymouth, I was out with some of my girls from the salon and their significant others. Us girls sipped on cocktails and took over the dance floor, while the men grunted at the Michigan vs. Ohio State game on the dimly lit TVs across the bar. It was then when one of my good friends (Shout out to Christa) spotted a group of gents she recognized from High School and asked me if I wanted to be introduced to them. Of course I agreed, not knowing that she was about to introduce me to my future husband. Once I was introduced to Kevin, his kind eyes met mine and his smile lit up the bar. We instantly hit it off, the night went so well that by the end of the night we ended up exchanging phone numbers. We spent the remainder of the weekend texting back and forth, we couldn’t wait to see each other again and had our first date two days later. He was so sweet, he cooked dinner for me as we spent time getting to know each other. It felt so comfortable already, watching movies together and laughing. None of those first date jitters. We dated for several months, and well, because this isn’t a Lifetime movie, we even ended up taking a break from each other, but the universe had a plan in store for us and wanted to prove to us that we were supposed to be in each other’s lives. After we began seeing each other again we had forgotten why we ever decided to take a break. Months later, I found out I was pregnant and we were blessed with Nora, our baby girl. We have been so fortunate to become parents together as it has allowed me to see Kevin in another light, as a father to my child, it is truly beautiful.

Kevin and I had planned a trip to Austin, Texas for the Fourth of July. We were going to visit his brother, sister-in-law and their newborn baby. They took us to a restaurant called the Oasis on Lake Travis, it is a popular spot because it has an INCREDIBLE view. As I was taking in the view and snapping photos on my iPhone from the balcony of the restaurant, Kevin asked if we could have our photo taken together down closer to Lake Travis. I resisted at first because it was hot out and I figured we could just take it up here. But he insisted so we went down the stairs in search of the perfect photo spot. As I am trying to give my phone to his sister-in-law to take a photo, Kevin keeps saying to look at this photo on his phone that was sent to us of Nora from the babysitter. In my head I was thinking “Really Kevin? You are trying to show me photos right now when we are supposed to be taking a photo?!” I then pause and realize that wait, Kevin is in this photo with Nora, so I look closer and realize there was a sign in the photo that said “Mommy, Will you Marry Daddy?!” that Nora was holding. It was then that I lost it and instantly started freaking out. Kevin then got down on one knee, I remember him saying “Marissa, I love you so much…” then I blacked out from pure excitement. Of course our family was capturing this entire moment, ugly crying and all. I was in shock and so very happy. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. We then finished our drinks and headed to a fancy dinner reservation at North Italia in the Domain. We enjoyed amazing food and lots and lots of celebratory champagne! We celebrated the entire night, it really was perfect.
