Our story begins nearly 14 years ago in Olathe, Ks. We first met largely in thanks to gymnastics and online dating before it was cool. I was in the 7th grade at Frontier Trail JH and Marissa was a freshmen. I had a classic 2 week middle school fling with one of her best friends from gymnastics. As those things do it passed but in the process I had struck up a friendship with Marissa. Of course right off the bat I could tell she was into me but her being two years older than me, just a lowly 7th grader, was to cool to go out with me. None the less we remained good friends throughout the years. During the college years we rarely missed an opportunity to get together over winter break or if for any reason both happened to be back in Olathe. Never quite in the same place at the same time, things never really were able to take off. That was until Marissa moved to Dallas for an great job opportunity. Meanwhile I was back at school in Conway, Ar. working on a graduates degree. Then on what would be tragedy turned into one of the most important days of my life. When returning from kayaking on a creek near Conway, my roommate, Coleman McAtee and I came across a litter of new born puppies that someone had abandoned in the tall grass on the creek bed where we had parked my truck. We took them in and took to social media to advertise that we had found this litter of gorgeous puppies and wanted to help them find homes to live. In one of the most clutch moves of the century, my good friend Gabe Guild reached out saying he wanted to adopt the puppy that would become known as Patches. Where was Gabe living? No where else than Dallas, Tx. I told Gabe I would be happy to drive Patches to him in Dallas. That weekend I reached out to Marissa and asked if she wanted to go out and catch up. There after building up a little liquid courage, I told Marissa that it would be one of the regrets in my life if we didn't give ourselves a fair shot, she said yes, and the rest is history!
