We ended up sitting at the same table the whole school year, even though the teacher swore she would do rotating seats. I was grateful for the extra time because Colton was a hard egg to crack. He really made me work for it. Our conversation starter was on the inside of a gum wrapper, and then I'd take the lead from there. Eventually, he got the hint, brought me chocolates from his hometown, and sent me postcards from around the world. Fast forward 5 years later and after a straight incline hike he asked the question at sunset with the most beautiful view. I could tell he was so nervous, he was shaking, and said he forgot everything he wrote down. It was also super special because our dog was there. Fun fact I've known my dog, Gatsby, for 1 month longer than my fiancé, funny the way life works sometimes.
