Our Story

Marissa is the words person of this relationship, so here’s a bit of Marissa’s perspective on how we came to be Caleb + Marissa.

Unsuspecting beginnings

Our families started going to the same church around the same time when we were in middle school. But we didn’t hang out or really even talk to each other…I was still pretending boys didn’t exist.

Friendship through the years

In 2015, we both went to M-FUGE at Boyce College in Louisville, Kentucky, and were placed on the same missions team for the week. I’d say it wasn’t until that week that we actually became friends. I liked that Caleb told me girls didn’t need to wear makeup everyday. But at the end of the week, he told me not to follow him on Instagram. After that week at camp, I would actually acknowledge Caleb’s presence when I saw him, but we still weren’t besties by any means. In the summer of 2017, we both started working at the Peach Truck and started to get to know each other a bit more before I moved to West Tennessee for college that fall. He messaged me on Slack early in my second semester of college, and I gave him my phone number 😳. We talked on and off through the rest of college but mostly when I was home for breaks…he always seemed to come around when I was in town. We spent a lot of time together the summer of 2018, working together at The Peach Truck and hanging out with church friends. Some might say our first dates were eating lunch together in the Chick-fil-A parking lot after work😊

More than friends?

I graduated college in 2020, and came home briefly before spending the summer in Utah serving with a church plant. A few days before I left for Utah, our Life Group met. Caleb came. The group prayed over me. That night was the first time I remember hearing Caleb pray as he prayed for my summer of missions in Utah. I came back from Utah at the end of the summer, and by early 2021 I was starting to get the feeling that maybe this was going somewhere. So when he asked me to be his valentine, I said, “Absolutely!” We went out on three dates, and then Caleb asked me to be his girlfriend. And we’ve been rocking and rolling ever since.

The proposal

We had been talking about marriage for a while. July 17, 2022 was the day Caleb popped the question so we could make it official. We went on a walk around the lake at Long Hunter State Park, stopping at each of the docks along the path. On the third dock, Caleb asked me to marry him. Of course, I said, “Absolutely:)”
