Marissa and Bailey found beauty at the water’s edge in May of 2017. Two waves crashing into each other at a Shem Creek happy hour, neither knew it would be a meeting that would change their lives. Happy hour turned into happy hours, Shem Creek turned into Marissa's friend's house, and the low-key evening turned into an all-night conversation. They discovered they went to the same school (Go Cocks!!), graduated the same year, knew some of the same people, and were legitimately shocked they had never crossed paths. They knew fate was intervening, however, when they found they were actually living just around the corner from each other. Bailey almost made it 24 hours before asking Marissa (who preferred wine) on their very first date--a romantic evening at the beer-only House of Brews. Three years, one apartment, and 16 Phish shows later, Bailey was asking another question. He envisioned a private, intimate setting for the proposal, so naturally chose John's Island's Angel Oak--one of the most popular tourist destinations in Charleston. Surrounded by strangers and clicking cameras, Bailey got to one knee under the 500-year-old branches and asked Marissa to marry him. After her enthusiastic YES!, the happy couple joined family and friends for a surprise celebration at Holy City Brewing. The scene offered a perfect glimpse into their future together--there will always be friends, there will always be family, there will likely be beer (and some wine for Marissa). We wish Bailey and Marissa a love as constant as the tides from which it was born and as strong as the oak under which it was sealed. Congratulations and cheers! We love y'all!
