Andrew and Marissa's story starts thirteen years ago. They met the old-fashioned way (online) and went for their first date on October 11, 2012. A connection quickly formed based on shared interests. They even talked about favorite board games that first night, a sign of things to come. One date turned into several, and soon they were spending much of their free time together. The past thirteen years have brought many joys and challenges. They have lived in two states, three apartments, and their first home. Oscar (tabby cat), Ollivander (pitbull mix), and Otis (Bernese Mountain Dog mix) joined the family, keeping them busy with walks, training, and antics. Both Andrew and Marissa completed Master's degrees and pursued additional licenses to further their careers in special education. They travel whenever they get the chance and have explored twelve states and five countries together. Most recently, they took a 'babymoon' to Mexico City. Spending time with friends and family brings them both joy, especially when Andrew can get a board game on the table. While they have been one another's 'person' for a long time, Marissa often joked that they skipped the marriage step. She was completely surprised when Andrew proposed via home improvement project on January 2, 2026 and of course said yes. They were married at Minneapolis City Hall on February 6, 2026. Andrew and Marissa were overjoyed to welcome their daughter, Matilda Ann Haugen Mastel, on March 19, 2026. Even at a few weeks old, it is clear that she has things to say and places to go. They look forward to soaking up every smile and enjoying each milestone as a family of three.
