Robert and I met mid-summer 2017 in our hometown of Hobbs, NM. We had been following eachother on social media for some time without ever really realizing we were. One day, Robert decided to send me a message through Instagram just wanting to start a conversation with me. I remember opening the message but I ignored it and never responded. Some time passed and he decided to send me a message through snapchat complimenting a selfie I had posted. I decided to respond to his snapchat and we carried on a conversation for a little while. That same night he sent me a snapchat, he sent me another one asking me for my number. I opened the message and I had told him “sure” but just left the message on read (oops haha). Robert sent me another message asking if he could have my number again and i thought “wow, he’s persistent lol” so I went ahead and gave it to him. I remember he immediately text me and we began to get to know one another soon after. A few days later, he had mentioned to me how he wanted to get to meet me. I was a little nervous to meet him because we are 6 years apart in age and I was afraid what my parents would tell me but I told my mom I was just going to meet with him and we would go from there. We decided to meet at La Michoacana here in Hobbs to have some fresas con crema (strawberries & cream). I remember we were there for almost 3 hours just talking. Robert and I hit it off pretty well. We got to know one another, our hobbies, likes/dislikes, favorite foods/colors, about our family, and what we were really looking for out of a partner/relationship, and what our long-term goals were. He walked me outside to my car to say bye to me and he gave me a hug and he instantly went in for the first kiss. There was just something about him that just warmed my heart. I knew that I would be in great hands and here we are 2 years later. The rest is history!
Robert and I have this little tradition that we started where we get some type of pictures taken once a year. Our first year was fall pictures. When I was thinking of what to do, i saw a Christmas themed photoshoot and thought it would be cute to take Christmas pictures. Robert and I even said how perfect it would be if we were able to catch snow in these pictures. little did we know that’s what we were getting. I found a photographer who takes AMAZING pictures & we set up a date and time. We had planned to take our pictures here in Hobbs. A few days before our scheduled date, it was just horribly windy and I had told Robert maybe we should just push it back an extra week. He agreed & told me to ask her if we could get them done in Lubbock so we planned it for the following weekend. The day before our pictures, it snowed quite a bit and i saw that Lubbock got 10+ inches of snow. We were wondering “should we do it after all?”. We confirmed our shoot regardless and we left early the next morning to get there and have enough time to get ready at my apartment. We arrived at our location and we just started taking pictures. I noticed something was off. I swore I saw my parents SUV drive around and his brothers truck but I just shrug it off. We took our pictures & Robert kept fidgeting with his pocket & his phone & only wanted me on one side of him so something was definitely up. His family showed up and we ended up taking family pictures as well. My parents vehicle showed up & parked so I knew something was definitely off. As they are all walking towards us, I’m guessing Robert got super nervous and he got my attention and told me “Babe, I have something to tell you” he gave me his heart-melting spill and got on one knee with the ring and asked me to marry him. The photographer captured every moment but sadly our family didnt get to get to capture a video since they were still walking when he asked me haha but it was a beautiful memory between the both of us to share.
