We met through friends our freshman year at UNC. That summer, we both stayed in Chapel Hill to take the same two prerequisites for the business school. We became much closer over car rides to campus, late night study sessions in the UL, and intense games of both trash basketball and actual HORSE. Marion won almost all of those competitions, at least that's how she remembers it. We started dating at the beginning of our sophomore year, and the rest is history. Over these past eight years, we have survived COVID and more than 9,000 miles of long distance when Marion spent a year teaching in Thailand. We have watched countless hours of football, attended numerous Carolina sporting events, and gone on many amazing trips across four continents. We can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together doing more of the same again and again. In mid-October of last year, Carter surprised Marion with a sunrise proposal in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Hendersonville, NC, where Carter's grandmother lives. After a hike through the fall foliage, we ate dinner at Asheville's Grove Park Inn to soak in the excitement. The mountaintop proposal and our ceremony venue follow in the footsteps of Marion's parents, who were engaged on a hike and married at All Saints 30 years ago this October.
