A Classic Miami Love Story

written by the person who was there to witness it all

They say all great love stories have a little bit of fate, a little bit of timing, and—if you’re in Miami—a boat. As Marioly’s best friend, I’d love to take credit for her and Rogel’s love story, but really, I just needed a plus-one for a boat day. Being the amazing friend she is, she didn’t hesitate to come along. What neither of us knew was that this casual day out on the water would change her life forever. From the second Marioly and Rogel met, there was something in the air (besides the salty ocean breeze). You could tell there was instant chemistry, and before long, they were completely inseparable. But let’s be real—Marioly was the one who made the first move. Spotting Rogel alone, she walked right up and, in true Miami fashion, asked, “So… what are you drinking?” And just like that, the spark ignited. Now, Marioly may have been bold at first, but at one point, she tried to pull back, maybe out of nerves, maybe just to keep things interesting. Rogel, completely smitten and a little lost on what to do next, wasn’t about to let her slip away. And this is where I like to think I played a small but crucial role—I gave Marioly a little nudge (okay, maybe a strong push), and she picked up the phone. One date later, and that was it. Rogel was a different man with Marioly—more thoughtful, more devoted. When she went to Europe, the time zones didn’t matter; he was calling, checking in, proving every day that she was the one. It wasn’t long before he gave her a beautiful promise ring, a sign of what they both already knew—this was forever. Rogel once said, “La vida solo te da tanta oportunidades,” which means “Life only gives you so many opportunities.” From the second he met Marioly, he knew this was the kind of chance you don’t mess around with. This was the one. And let’s talk about commitment—because if nine months apart while Rogel is in Kuwait won't shake these two, nothing will. At least those nine months gave Marioly plenty of time to plan the wedding down to perfection (silver linings, right?). Watching their love story unfold has been nothing short of magical. Marioly shines next to Rogel, and he has shown her a love that is kind, genuine, and unwavering. I couldn’t be happier to stand by her side as she marries the man who was meant for her all along. - Vane Alvarez, Bridesmaid & Best Friend of the Bride
