7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
The Sangeet (meaning "music) refers to the central musical and dance party of the pre-wedding festivities. This event is typically held to praise the bride and groom, playfully tease family members, and sing emotional songs about the bride leaving the parental home.
Wear vibrant, festive colors— Feel free to wear traditional Indian outfits or anything you love. Since we’ll be on the sand, choose breathable fabrics and comfortable shoes. And be prepared to dance the night away to kick off the week! Guests will also have the opportunity to partake in the beautiful tradition of henna during this event. In Punjabi culture, henna (mehndi) is believed to bring good luck, love, and happiness to the couple. The darker the henna color, tradition says, the stronger the love between the couple—or the closer the bond between the bride and her future mother-in-law (...no pressure Adelina). Buffet style Indian dinner to be served.
11:00 am - 3:00 pm
The Maiyaan is a cleansing and beautifying ceremony performed a day or two before the main wedding day. Turmeric paste is applied to the bride and groom to ward off evil spirits and shower the couple with good fortune. Family members and close friends take turns lovingly applying the paste onto the seated bride and groom's face, arms, and legs. No specific attire is required, but if you need inspiration: think pastel colors in linen or cotton. Light snacks and tea will be provided. Pool party to follow ;)
10:30 am - 12:30 pm
DRUM ROLL PLEASE... the main event is finally here !! — the Sikh Wedding Ceremony, also called the Anand Karaj, which means “blissful union.” Prior to this ceremony, the Milni will be performed to symbolize the joining of two families in unity and mutual respect.
The Anand Karaj is a meaningful and joyful Sikh wedding ceremony where Aimee and Mario make lifelong promises to each other in front of family, friends, and the Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh holy scripture). During the ceremony, they’ll walk around the Guru Granth Sahib four times, each round symbolizing an important promise: commitment, spiritual growth together, strength and courage, and eternal love. We ask guests to dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, and to wear head coverings—scarves/dupattas for women, turbans/ramals for men. We will be providing scarves at the entrance for both men and women. Shoes must be removed before entering, so slip-on footwear is easiest. Seating will be on the floor. This is a sacred ceremony, and we kindly ask everyone to be respectful and keep it a sober event. Tea and snacks will be available from 9–10am at Tazuna Restaurant, with lunch following from 1–2pm at La Nao Restaurant. We can’t wait to share this beautiful celebration with you!
