How We Met

August 16, 2017

In August of 2017 Matt and I were preparing to move in to Holly Pointe Commons for our respective fourth and second years as Resident Assistants. I entered the two week RA training on the prowl for my senior year at Rowan. That’s when I met Matt. I already made up my mind that we would date, but he took a little more convincing. The first night we played a team building game with our staff; Matt and I were on opposing teams. During one round, Matt's team ran out of time and didn't get the last point they needed. They swore they got it, but I stood my ground and insisted they did not deserve the point. Matt thought I was "too competitive." Still I continued my pursuit and he soon fell for my charming sarcasm.

Making It Official

October 2, 2017

Matt and I had been getting to know each other for a couple of months now and we were going out to Landmark, Rowan's main campus bar, for our friend Torrie's birthday. As we were getting ready, I decided I was ready to pop the question. I asked Matt to be my boyfriend. He said yes, we went out, and celebrated the night with Torrie. Months later, I was talking to Matt about the start of our relationship and he revealed to me that he was not ready for a relationship when I asked. The only reason he said yes was because he thought I would have stopped talking to him altogether if he said no. Luckily for him, I knew what was best for him.

The Proposal

December 19, 2020

At the start of 2020, Matt and I began discussing marriage. Through our discussions, we decided that we wanted to be engaged by the end of the year. We agreed with that timeline, and life went on. We bought our home on July 15, 2020, still no ring on my finger. As the year went on, the deadline was approaching. One Saturday in December, we went skiing at Blue Mountain. On our way to the mountain, I said to Matt, "It would be so nice if we got engaged before Christmas so we could celebrate with both of our families." Little did I know, but the ring was in his pocket as we drove. We spend the day skiing and we get to the top of the mountain to prepare for our next run. Matt knelt down to buckle his boots, and I thought nothing of it. A few seconds later, he pulls out the ring and pops the question. Of course I said yes! I turned around to see our friend Eric behind me taking pictures of the whole thing. P.S. We continued skiing the rest of the day. On one run, Matt fell down. He wasn't injured so he got up and kept on skiing. When we left that evening, he took the ring box out of his pocket and gave it to me to keep. When we saw the box, we both burst out laughing because it is completely crushed and off the hinges! He broke it when he fell down skiing. We plan on keeping that broken box forever as a reminder of our engagement.
