If you have ever heard of the invisible string theory, then you know life has a funny way of quietly pulling people toward each other long before they ever realize it. With David being from South Philly and Marina from Delco, it’s no surprise their paths crossed, but what is surprising is how often they did without them having a clue. The invisible string first appeared at high school parties in Edgely Fields, where David and his South Philly friends apparently spent their weekends mingling with private school kids, standing out as if the Jersey Shore crew had crashed the Kentucky Derby. Marina was there too… though neither of them remembers the other, probably for the best. Then came high-school senior week: the Bahamas. Marina went with her Upper Darby girlfriends, and David went with a large South Philly crew. Somehow, they ended up in the same places at the same time, as documented by multiple photos and videos, where they are literally in each other’s backgrounds. Still strangers. Still oblivious. Fast forward to college. Marina went down to Wildwood, NJ, with a Penn State friend who just happened to have grown up with David. This was their first formal interaction. David tried hitting on Marina. Marina was not impressed. (David would like this moment removed from the story.) Life went on. The invisible string stayed quiet until a random Sunday night at Midnight at the Wicked during a Sinatra performance, where they crossed paths again. This time, it stuck. David reached out… and promptly but mistakenly sent Marina the wrong phone number. Marina never called him. A week later, David realized his mistake, reached out again, and finally, the invisible string did its job. Their first date was breakfast at Sabrina’s Cafe in Collingswood, NJ, and it quietly turned into something lasting.
