Como nos conocimos (How we met)

Abril 2020

“I don’t know, man. I mean she’s cute, but I haven’t heard from her in while so…” Words spoken by Mitch to his friend Eric in Spring/Summer of 2020 outside the front steps. It was an unlikely story to be had in the first place. Mitch was living in the beautiful Nutmeg State of Connecticut while Marilyn, having moved from Honduras about three years earlier, was living approximately 565 miles away in the homely town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Mitch wasn’t particularly interested in having a romantic relationship with anyone at that time nor was Marilyn. Even so, friends of M&M – Chris and Tingan – took it upon themselves, unbeknownst to M&M, to introduce the two via a Facetime call on a sunny April afternoon of 2020. Mitch, realizing that Marilyn was rather cute, decided to initiate friendship (given assistance from Tingan who cleverly put the two within a text thread making Marilyn’s number accessible). Although communication ebbed and flowed throughout the months, Mitch and Marilyn kept in contact and eventually met later that year when Mitch moved to North Carolina. Mitch was living with Chris and Tingan who were, unsurprisingly, not shy about assisting Mitch and Marilyn with organizing a couple of meet-ups. A friendship in place and a number of dates later (along with a long drive to Queen City and consumption of numerous tacos and an incalculable quantity of baleadas), Mitch expressed his feelings for Marilyn and she for him. The story has been filled with a number of highlights so far, from traversing the mountainous coastline of Oregon together to exploring Mayan Ruins in Honduras with family. Being together has been and continues to be the absolute best. And now, having reached the beginning of a new chapter, we would like to invite you into celebrating with us as we embark on learning what it means to love each other well as husband and wife – as ‘ride or die’s’ til we part. We are so excited and thankful to have a community of people who love us enough to support us as we take our next steps into the beautiful, mysterious, miraculous, messy, and worthwhile venture that is marriage. As we do so, we want to acknowledge not only your love, but above all, the Master Author, the Heart Holder, and Grace Giver who has woven our stories together and whose inexhaustible grace has been the throughline of our relationship. We pray this same grace meets you wherever you’re at as you read this and we hope too, come June 29th, that where you’ll be at is with us, dusting off the fancy duds, lifting your cocktail glass, and dancing to the YMCA when it inevitably plays on our finely-tuned, avant-garde playlist. We love you all and look forward to seeing everyone soon. Nos vemos pronto!
