We strongly recommend renting a car at the airport as this the easiest and most flexible way to reach the Dolomites. There is no public transportation or ride share services to the mountains. Please note, as of 2025, Italy requires you to obtain an International Driving Permit. This can be obtained from any company and generally just involves a fee and a copy of your current driver's license. VENICE Take time to explore the city, then head north through Cortina d’Ampezzo, the iconic alpine town that just hosted the Winter Olympics. INNSBRUCK Start in the heart of the Austrian Alps, then drive south over the scenic Brenner Pass into Italy, winding through Tyrolean valleys and over the spectacular Gardena Pass. VERONA Drive through Bolzano, a cultural crossroads of Italian and Austrian influences, through Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest alpine meadow, before taking the scenic round through Gardena Pass. MILAN Drive past Lake Como with mountain-lake scenery and Lake Garda, with charming lakeside villages before going through Trento, a historic city with a pretty old town below the alps. MUNICH Soak up the charm of Bavaria, then stop at Neuschwanstein Castle, the fairytale castle that inspired the Disney castle.
