While Marie was preparing for her college bowling team she would go to Sioux City every Tuesday to practice with the coach and some of the team. Shane was friends with one of Marie's teammates and met him through that. As the summer went on Marie and Shane continued to spend time together because of this friend (thanks Katie). They would go disc golfing, bowling, out to dinner, driving around, and so much more. Once Marie officially moved to Sioux City to start Morningside College, Marie and Shane started to work together at Rush Lanes. As their friendship grew Marie and Shane became very close, close enough for Marie to "brother-zone" Shane. But after 6 months of Shane looking at Marie, Marie finally saw what she needed to see to ask him out on, technically, their first date. After that movie date for Shane's birthday, the two friends began to text each other, with Shane finally asking her to be his girlfriend on January 1, 2016 at 12:30 am while working at Rush Lanes. He may have asked while Marie was putting a dirty dish rag in the hamper but that didn't matter because the rest is history.
Wow! 2020 what a year right?! Well for Shane and Marie the end of 2020 was a busy one. We bought a house and......GOT ENGAGED. After 5 years of waiting and Shane telling Marie that asking was her job, Shane finally got down on one knee and did what Marie has been dreaming of their entire relationship. On December 31, 2020 at 9:30 pm Shane came to the door of their new house with his parents, rang the doorbell, and when Marie opened the door, he got down on one knee in the entryway of their new home. Marie states, "I remember it, but I don't remember it because it was one of the happiest moments of my life." Marie also gets to look back at how Shane was feeling thanks to a video that one of our bridesmaids Marisa got. With our families and a few friends surrounding us, we were able to start a new chapter in our lives.
Today is a day about celebrating the love that Shane and Marie share. We are so excited to be able to celebrate this day with our family and friends. We have so many people that we love and want to be able to share our special day with we want to make sure that we can do it safely and so we are waiting a little longer to be able to celebrate. We pray that everyone will have a blast, playing some of our favorite games, eating some of our favorite food, and dancing to some of our favorite music. Please have a blast as Marie and Shane become husband and wife. Hopefully the fall Nebraska weather will be kind to us and stay as perfect as this day will be, if not please keep up with this website as any updates will happen here.
