Uber! It's the easiest mode of transport, safe and cheap.

Question

Travel & Security Notice 1

Answer

If possible, try to get a direct flight to Mexico:) Best to fly directly to Mexico City or over Cancun. On a note: When flying over the UK and the USA, there can be difficulties. From political situations, screening of social media, frequent delays with minimal layover time resulting in missed flights (this will cost you 1-2 days worst case no compensation), long waiting lines, stict security and sometimes also winter storms. What to expect? If there is a layover in the USA you will have to pick your luaggage and manually transfer it at the airport. Sometimes luaggages can get lost. If you still want to fly like this you MUST have ESTA or make sure you have a VISA! What can be recommended? If you have a bit of time and want to save money - flying over Amsterdam Airport i.e with KLM, Madrid i.e. Air Europa or Iberia, or Paris i.e. Air France can be options. For further information when travelling via USA please check: https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/de/service/laender/usa-node/usavereinigtestaatensicherheit-201382

Question

How do I get from the airport to the hotel?

Answer

Once you go through immigration, after exiting the luaggage area - directly on the right you will see Taxi stands (they do take cash and credit cards). We recommend Sitio 300 (white clolour) or yellow cab (yellow) they will give you a receipt upon prepayment and then you just have to go out to the right until end of the hall, give the valet the receipt and wait for your cab. If you already have data you can also always call an UBER.

Question

How do I get cell phone reception and wifi at the airport?

Answer

When you arrive you will have public wifi at the airport which helps you connect once you arrive. However you will only have this inside - once you go out of the luaggage area you might loose the connection. We highly recommend to everyone to have an international eSIM before your travel or check with your cell phone provider i.e. Telekom, AT&T etc. whether you can get international Data. In case you need help or recommendation feel free to approach Philip who can help here.

Question

Where to fly from Mexico City and travel next?

Answer

Mexico City has a very large airport. Inland flights are quite affordable with airlines like Viva Aero or Aeromexico from 50-150 Dollars/ Euros. You could fly either to the Cancun Penisula, Cabo San Lucas (Baja California), Oaxaca or Puerto Escondido. This depends on your budget and whether you prefer large international hotels, or a rather remote and surf experience. In any case with Cancun you definately can't go wrong.

Question

Where to stay in Cancun?

Answer

If you do not want to have the tourist experience - we recommend to look for a place to stay a bit outside where you might have more nature and beach. Playa del Carmen is a more cozy spot, and there are also remote resorts and airbnbs in the jungle. If you want bars and people - then best to stay in Cancun itself or close to Tulum if you want party :)

Question

What to do in Cancun?

Answer

With the brand new tren maya you can easily get around without having to rent a car. Go to the Pyramids - they are the 8th world wonder, go snorkeling, explore nature and animals and the Cenotes (under water caves)... endless activities and places to explore :)

Question

Travel & Security Notice 2

Answer

How to stay safe in mexico? In general in tourist areas i.e. City Center of Mexico City and Cancun you'll be safe, don't worry :) However there are a few things to consider: 1. Beware of pocket thieves and always keep your wallet & documents close with you (it's recommended to leave your passport in the safe in your hotel room and just bring your ID card when leaving the room). 2.Best to not carry any expensive jewelry or watches with you, best leave them at home in your home country. 3. Best to stay in your hotel after 10 pm, like locals. Ask at the hotel (or local shops or restaurants) what they recommend and if the area is secure :) In tourist areas if you have and want to you can still go to restaurants - no worries but in more rural areas, this is definately not recommended. 4. Don't take public buses at night time, better take an uber and also don't drive by yourself in a rental car during night hours. 5. To be safe, drive during the day on official highways. 6. Try to avoid exploring on your own rural areas and unpaved streets (also to not have an accident or get stuck) - especially in the north. 7. General rule: South: i.e. Cancun, Oaxaca and the center of the country i.e. Puebla and Mexico City regions are considered safer, while the North is considered more unsafe i.e. anywhere north of Guadalajara. Only exception is Monterrey. And Tourist spots as San Miguel or Puerto Vallarta.
