21 year old Mari was home from college for the summer about to start her senior year while Neil was working for Uncle Sam. One night, Mari and her best friend Amber decided to go out to Pacific Beach in San Diego for a fun night out. After a bar or two or three, they decided to go to PB Shoreclub. There, Mari saw the tallest guy in the room with a cute smile and bright blue eyes. Mari approached this guy and asked him for his name before stealing his drink. Neil knew right then and there that Mari was the girl that would drive him crazy for the rest of his life. They kept talking the rest of the night enjoying each others company. After only a couple dates, Mari had to return to college to finish her senior year. They continued to talk as friends for a couple months and after a while, Mari also knew Neil was someone special. Neil asked Mari to be his girlfriend November 10, 2017. Fast forward to a deployment, a puppy, a new state, and new jobs years later, there was still a whole lot of love, but no ring. On November 9, 2024 (6 years and 364 days into their relationship), Neil, Mari, Kevin, Lauren and the kids decided to go sledding at Mt. Falcon in Colorado. While they were hiking up the mountain, Neil thought it would be a good idea to take some pictures for their holiday card they send out every year. As they were taking pictures, Neil all of a sudden gets down on one knee and asks Mari to marry him. Mari was so shocked she started crying and didn't believe what was happening. She forgot to answer Neil. He then pointed out into the distant and told her to turn around. Hiding in the trees and snow was Mari's mom, dad, and sister. Neil had flown out her family so that they could be a part of the special day as well. Everyone was crying and again, Neil asked Mari if she would marry him and she finally said yes!
