Vals with los padrinos y madrinas, who play a significant part in the wedding. They’re like godparents, and sponsor portions of the wedding. Another tradition is the Baile del Dolar (the Money Dance) where guests “pay” for a dance with the couple by pinning dollars on their attire or place in a designated box. It’s a way to secure some one-on-one time with the newlyweds—which is rare in large Mexican weddings—and to extend best wishes to the happy couple. El Baile de las Cazuelas (the Pots Dance) is a presentation symbolizing the desire for the newlyweds to enjoy abundance in terms of food and kitchen essentials. La Vibora de La Mar (the Sea Snake Dance) is a song and dance where the bride and groom stand on chairs opposite one another and form an arch, which guests pass through while holding hands and dancing. The goal is to not break the snake formation. The men tend to lean more towards the groom until making him fall off the chair.
