Maria and Ruben first met taking a class at Cal Poly Pomona in 2009 eleven years ago. Ruben claims Maria was too cool to talk to him at the time, but Maria always says, God's timing is perfect, and it just wasn't meant to be back then, and that also maybe she was too cool. JUST KIDDING :) Fast forward to 2013, thanks to fabulous Facebook (the beginning of every modern fairy tale) they began messaging each other. When Maria found out Ruben lived in Wyoming, her heart sank because how could this possibly work out! That's 1,034.9 miles away! Despite this, they still kept messaging each other. When Ruben was able to visit California, he asked Maria out for dinner, and she said yes. They had never spoken on the phone before, he didn't even have her number until the day they went out. Eventually, Ruben did move back to Pomona, then moved to Carlsbad, then back to Pomona, THEN moved to San Mateo. Never the less, the two made it work because "True love doesn’t mean being inseparable; it means being separated and nothing changes." On March 19, 2020 our lives were forever changed due to COVID-19. While they originally wanted to get married in front of all their friends and family, they had to adjust their plans. Maria and Ruben were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony on November 21, 2020 at the Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano in the presence of immediate family members. Even though they wished you all could be there with us, the health and safety of our loved ones is of the utmost importance. Please visit the Ceremony Livestream page to view footage of this special day. We hope you can join us in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on November 27, 2021 to celebrate their love in a symbolic ceremony, and dance the night away at the reception they have been dreaming of! Please see the "Travel & Lodging" section on this website for more information on booking. Nos vemos en Puerto Vallarta!
