Plan for at least 3 days in Rio de Janeiro, to see the city from a few different angles: - Christ the Redeemer: one of the 7 wonders of the world. - Sugar Loaf Mountain: take the cable cars to see the most incredible landscape. - Beaches: Ipanema, Leblon, or Copacabana. The sunsets will blow your mind. - Botanical Gardens: the most diverse garden in the world. - Santa Teresa: older more picturesque Rio, close to the Lapa Steps and the Arcos de lapa. - Pedra da Gávea - a hike on the very southern end of Rio for incredible sights.
IPANEMA & LEBLON: lively and chic part of Rio dotted with the best and up and coming restaurants, stores and closest the best beaches in Rio. - Janeiro Hotel - Ritz Leblon - Hotel Fasano - Arena Ipanema COPACABANA: Convenient location by the beach with a party type atmosphere. Slightly more touristy with lots of shops and surrounding restaurants as well. - Fairmont Copacabana - Hotel Arpoador - Hotel Emiliano - Hotel Belmond Copacabana Palace SANTA TERASA: the most typical Brazilian feel in a bohemian neighborhood. Not located at the beach but central to the city with great views, shops and restaurants. - MGallery Santa Teresa - Mama Ruisa - Casa Marques
Note that the Club Med resort offers full day trips there with transportation. Paraty is a coastal town with a lot of history. It’s a small town so you can walk most of it within a day, but we’d still recommend staying 2-3 days so you can have some time to explore and go out on a boat. - Old Colonial Town: take some time to wander through the old colonial town, and shop through the typical boutiques as each store is one of a kind. - Boat tour: right of the colonial town, there are many boats with a captain that can take you around the islands. - Head to the beaches: about 40 mins to Praia do Meio or Praia do Cachadaço both have natural swimming pools and white beaches. - Hike Forte Defensor Perpétuo: a fort above Paraty with breathtaking cliffs or hike Cachoeira do Tobogã a stunning waterfall.
In Paraty, we’d highly recommend staying either in the colonial town, or within walking distance of it, as that is where you’ll want to spend a bulk of your time. They have the boutique shops, restaurants, and picturesque streets to wander. Here’s a few we’d recommend: - Sandi Hotel - Pousada do Ouro - Casa Turquesa - Pousada Literaria de Paraty - Pousada da Marquesa
We recommend staying at the Club Med resort from Thursday to Sunday. It has beautiful accommodations and many activities. Including tennis, kayak, yoga and water skiing. But also the ability to relax on the beach, listen to live music, enjoy the spa or go for hikes. In Angra dos Reis there are other wonderful hotels to relax, such as the Fasano and some great Pousadas (bed & breakfast). You will discover a paradise of 365 islands where lush rainforests meet crystal-clear waters.
