Question

What is the significance of the Lasso during the ceremony?

Answer

The lasso represents unity. The lazo is a large loop of rosary beads that is placed around the necks of the couple in the shape of an eight. The loop is a symbol of love that binds the couple as they share the responsibility of marriage.

Question

What is the significance of the arras (wedding coins) during the Ceremony?

Answer

A latino tradition after the blessing and exchange of rings, the priest blesses a set of 13 wedding coins (which represent Jesus and his 12 apostles). The symbolic gesture communicates the couple's trust in each other to share the responsibility of managing the household finances. The groom makes a pledge to provide for his family while the bride vows to honor the blessings God has put into their lives. The coins are also a good luck token to ensure the couple will never be without money. It is also said that each coin represents continued prosperity for each month of the year, with a little extra to spare. Additionally, the odd number is not dividable, just as a strong marriage should be. Since the tradition is deeply rooted in the Catholic faith, the coins also symbolize Jesus and his 12 apostles.

Question

What is the dollar/money dance and why do you do it?

Answer

A latino tradition in Magaly's family. The dollar/money dance is a chance for relatives to take turns briefly dancing with the bride and groom and pinning money on their clothes, which allows the couple to spend a few moments with their guests whom choose to participate. The money pinned will go towards the couples honeymoon or savings for a home.
