Sometimes, the best things in life happen accidentally. Our first date was no exception. We started hanging out together through a mutual friend, Jaime (Best Man of the Wedding). However, we never would personally see each other without Jaime around since we really only knew each other through him. One day, we all planned on catching a movie after school. However, halfway through the day, Jaime was grounded by his mom, Frances. He was to report home immediately after school and so our plan to see the movie as a trio was no longer in the cards. That left Javohn and I with an awkward situation: Do we cancel our movie plans since Jaime could no longer join us or do we see a movie together alone for the first time? Though we saw each other frequently, the idea of being alone together without Jaime was a bit intimidating. Despite this (fortunately for the future us) neither of us had the courage to cancel on the other. So, we decided to continue with our plans without our friend present. What I thought was going to be a very awkward hang out, ended up surprising me. Turns out, we didn't need Jaime to have a great time together (sorry Jaime). Immediately from the start it was very comfortable. We took photos in the Photo Booth (we still have the photo strip to this day), got our popcorn, and sat down to see Fast & the Furious 6. To my surprise, in the dark theatre, halfway through the movie, I felt Javohn's hand on mine. My 16 year old self almost died from excitement right there on the spot. He held my hand for the remainder of the movie and the rest was history. Almost twelve years later, we are finally getting married! Though Jaime likes to credit himself for helping start our relationship, I would like to give credit where credit is due: Thank you, Frances, for grounding Jaime that day back in 2013! I am sure he deserved the punishment and you gave Javohn & I the opportunity to get to know each other. Now, we could not picture a life without one another and can't wait to celebrate our marriage with everyone in June! Marian, The Bride
