Flying into San Antonio

The closest airport to us is the San Antonio International Airport. This is your best bet if you're traveling from most places in the U.S. Southwest and JetBlue have good flight deals in and out of San Antonio (JetBlue has a daily flight from JFK to San Antonio), and American Airlines and Delta have a number of routes through San Antonio as well. If you're arriving from the UK, you can fly into San Antonio via a connecting flight, or British Airways has a direct flight from London Heathrow to Austin Bergstrom Airport. This route is often less expensive than flying into San Antonio, and has the ease of being a direct flight. Bear in mind that if you fly into Austin you will need to take a bus from Austin to San Antonio. The buses take about 1.5 - 2.5 hours, and are usually around $15-30. Greyhound and Megabus are reliable ones we've used before, but there are lots of options. You can also rent a car and drive from Austin to San Antonio; there's a scenic route through the Texas hill country if you want to see some countryside. We haven't perfected the public transport infrastructure in Texas, so if you're eager to get out and explore the hill country while you're here, you'll want to rent a car. Because we don't have great buses, if you don't rent a car and want to explore the city, you'll probably need to take Lyfts/Ubers to get around. If you like using taxis better, you can call national cab at 210-434-4444.

Where to Stay in San Antonio

San Antonio has many options for places to stay and is a favorite destination for vacationers and conventioneers. We recommend booking earlier rather than later - if you want insider help, you can call, text or email Kristen at 713.410.9345 or kristenwcasey@gmail.com. Key words to search to look for convenient areas are King William, Southtown, Riverwalk, and Downtown. We’re based in the King William area of San Antonio, just south of downtown. If you stay in King William or the broader Southtown area, you’ll be walking distance to the Liberty Bar. You may choose to stay downtown, also very convenient to the party venue/our neighborhood, just a few minutes’ drive or a nice longer walk on the River Walk. There are a lot of bed and breakfasts and Airbnbs in King William/Southtown - we recommend checking those out. If you don’t mind a short drive and want to save, the Airbnbs in Tobin Hill and Dignowity Hill are a bit lower price-range, as the neighborhoods get fewer tourists. If you're down with bed and breakfasts, there's the Yellow Rose, Brackenridge House, and Noble Inns, all in King William. King William Hotel is right across the street from the party venue (and doesn't have a website - if you're interested call Mary at 210.510.8308). For hotels, there are lots of options. Close by and mid-range, price-wise, are the Hyatt Place San Antonio Riverwalk (well-located overlooking the river, with a nice patio backing up onto it), the Marriott Courtyard (600 S Santa Rosa Ave), and Spring Hill Suites (524 S St Mary's St). Some historic, quirky downtown hotels on or near the Riverwalk include the Fairmount, the O'Brien, and the Menger Hotel (haunted by Teddy Roosevelt.) Some nice high-end hotel options downtown are the Havana, the St. Anthony, and the Omni La Mansion.

Flying into London

London has a lot of airports, but if you're flying from the U.S. you're probably flying into Heathrow or Gatwick. If you're staying in our part of town (in Clapton or broader Hackney), the new Elizabeth Line on the underground is a quick trip from Heathrow to Liverpool Street Station, where you can get the overground to Clapton or other nearby neighborhoods. If you fly into Gatwick Airport, you can take the Gatwick Express to London Victoria Station. From there, if you're staying in our area you can easily get the Victoria Line underground train to Finsbury Park Station, where you can easily get a bus or a cab anywhere you're staying.

Where to Stay in London

There are loads of hotel options in London, especially if you want to be centrally located. If you’re interested in staying near the party venue and in a less touristy area, we live in Clapton, which is a neighborhood in Hackney, in east London. It’s a great neighborhood with lots of nice bars and restaurants and parks (you can find neighborhood recommendations under ‘things to do’). There are a lot of Airbnbs in Clapton and the broader Hackney area, with a broad price range, and some hotels to choose from. In our area, the Airbnbs are generally better value than the hotels. If you’re interested in hotels in/near Hackney - for a budget-friendly option very close to the party, there’s the Travelodge London Hackney. If you’re looking for a higher-end option, check out the Town Hall Hotel and Apartments in nice Bethnal Green. If you want to stay a little further south, the Hoxton Shoreditch is also an option, located close to easy transport to central London. Shoreditch is a busy neighborhood with lots of bars and people, so if you want a quieter area, it’s not for you.
