At Dunn Bros. Coffee in the Central Library in downtown Minneapolis is where our story begins. Mariah worked there during her years at the University of Minnesota. Little did she know she would soon begin working with a new coworker, Nick. In walks Nick for his first shift with his new coworker, Mariah. The two had great chemistry and worked together like they had known each other for years. They served and took orders seamlessly, working like a well-oiled machine after a few more shifts together. Nick would admire Mariah as she would chat with the regulars, seeing her smile, comfort, and ease with others. Mariah would admire Nick as he charmed everyone, including herself, and as always, do the dirty work for her, like cleaning the ovens. There was a natural and easy connection between them. Several months after working together, Mariah and Nick stayed late one night to deep clean the store. The two enjoyed each others company, listening to music and singing along as they made the store sparkle and shine for the next day. That night, Nick walked Mariah to her car, opened the door for her, and watched her drive away. In that moment, he knew she was someone special. They began spending time together outside of work, exploring the Twin Cities, and spending more time in other coffee shops getting to know one another (but only when Nick was sure she had finished all of her homework and assignments since he was dedicated to supporting her on her journey to become a master educator). What had begun as an unexpected relationship quickly blossomed into a deeper connection, one rooted in respect, kindness, and a love for God and one another. And the rest, as you know, is history.
