During the week of July 9th, 2017, Mariah and Josh were attending a week long family reunion at Coulter Lake Guest Ranch in Rifle, Colorado. The week was filled with white water rafting, horseback riding, and simply enjoying the outdoors of the beautiful state. Months before, Josh decided this would be the perfect opportunity to propose. He spent the months leading up to the trip planning on how and where he would do it. Somehow, Josh decided that 4:30 am on a 25 degree morning would be the best. Before waking Mariah up, Josh paced around the lake to prep himself. Then, at 4:30 am on July 12th, Josh woke Mariah up, took her to Uncle Earl's razor, gave her a blanket, and got into the driver's seat all while mysteriously holding a small book bag. They drove up to the top of the mountain, seeing various wildlife during the trip. Josh found a nice opening in the grass and laid out a blanket. They sat on the blanket, bundled up, freezing, and waited for the sun to rise. However, Josh got bored of waiting, so he decided to propose in the dark. Josh took Mariah's phone, started to play a Blink-182 song, and then gave his gushy speech (we will not be going into the details). He pulled the ring out of the book bag and proposed. Mariah obviously said yes! Afterwards, they sat on the blanket a little longer to see the sunrise, but unfortunately the sun never really did rise. It was a foggy morning and there was another mountain blocking the sunrise. So, Josh's ideal proposal didn't quite work out as planned, but hey, it's the thought that counts! :)
