Let us take you back to a vacation to Jamaica. Better yet, rewind to earlier in 2015. Mariah was trying to figure life out, and so was Brett. Though they'd been friends as co-workers for the last year already- the friendship really started to take off throughout 2015. Most weekends you could find Brett and Mariah out together with other co-workers and friends. Through a series of occurrences, it became a running joke between the two, that Mariah was Brett's pretend girlfriend. Now fastforward back to December of 2015, when Mariah, Brett, and their friends Erika, Dylan, and Lexie decided to go on a friends vacation to Jamaica. What a trip it was too! Somewhere between the endless late night grilled cheese sandwiches, drinking champagne straight from the bottle, Brett singing Garth Brooks at Karaoke, hanging out on the beach under a tiki umbrella in the rain, or Brett asking Mariah to dance to "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"- they decided that maybe Mariah shouldn't just be a pretend girlfriend. And the two have been singing "One Love" ever since!

Mariah and Brett had been planning a trip home to Maryland for the weekend, due to the Cal Sr. Foundation Golf Tournament that Friday. As the weekend drew near, Brett planted the seed with Mariah that he'd like to go to the Promenade at some point, "because we haven't been down there in forever." Mariah agreed without hesitation, because as you likely know- there's no place more like home to Mariah than down by the water in HDG. So Saturday morning rolls around- and the pair had agreed on getting their day going with a morning walk on the Promenade. But first you must know what a pain Mariah was being in preparation for the promenade. The day had really started with Brett and Mariah taking Slyder for a walk- which left Mariah slightly sweaty in athletic gear, with messy hair. Thinking that they were just going for another walk in the rising temperatures, Mariah was refusing to appease Brett and his requests for her to change clothes, put on makeup, do her hair... basically anything to look more presentable. Finally Mariah settled for jeans and a t-shirt, and out the door they went. Now on the promenade, as the two neared the lighthouse, Brett insisted they step out on the bump out pier just in front of the lighthouse. While there, Brett got down on one knee! Mariah was caught completely by surprise, so much so that her first responses weren't yes or of course... instead she kept saying "Seriously?! Are you serious!?". Finally Brett got a "YES!", and then it was off to finish the surprise- celebrating on Kay's Gift with not only Mariah's parents and siblings, but also Brett's parents and siblings who'd secretly come up from Virgnia Beach!
