It was an unusual week of Thanksgiving, when George’s family decided to have dinner at Macaroni Grill, the restaurant where Mafe worked. George and Mafe knew of each other due to having mutual friends, but had never “officially” met other than George sliding into her dms. When Mafe saw George having dinner at her then workplace, she was shocked and too shy to go say hello. She ended her shift, and started walking out of the restaurant when George decided to make a move. As Mafe was walking out, she noticed George walking up to her to say hi. Mafe, a little embarrassed in her work clothes, started talking to him as if they had been friends for the longest time. It felt so natural and was an instant click. He decided to walk her to her car and asked her if she would like to hang out later that same night. Sure enough, she got home and got ready to go on their first date. It was from that moment on that they never stopped hanging out. Fast forward, EXACTLY 10 years later, George and Mafe will say “I do” in no other place than Mexico, where they have created numerous memories through out the years and has become one of their favorite places to visit.

For 9 years, Mafe had been dreaming of George finally proposing. Last summer, they decided to go on a trip to Greece with their best friends. Although she was hoping he would propose, she had no idea. This trip was to celebrate her 30th birthday and did not see it coming. George had bought the ring 2 months before and had it hiding at his parents house in a pancake box so she wouldn’t see it. His family were the only ones that knew he was going to propose. He contacted a photographer to capture the special day on June 8th. On that same day, the photographer cancelled on him. George, nervous and freaking out, had to tell his friends to help him capture that moment. They planned an “all white” day to Oía, the most romantic town in Santorini, for a sunset watch. As they get to the spot, it was completely packed. Mafe, not knowing anything, says to just leave and go somewhere else. Nervous George insisted on finding a secluded spot in midst of the busy crowd. Finally, as they were “taking pictures”, George got on one knee and asked her to marry him. Mafe with a nervous laugh and tears on her eyes responded “is this a joke!?” She couldn’t believe it was finally happening and she said YES. Although he had to improvise, It was everything she ever dreamed of. He proposed in a dream destination, surrounded by the friends they loved the most, as the sun was setting.
