Question

Answer

Santa Fe de Antioquia is about 1 hour from Medellín by car. The nearest major airport is José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) in Medellín. We will provide transportation from Medellin to Santa Fe de Antioquia, more details coming soon.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

Our recommendation is to stay in Santa Fe de Antioquia for the wedding weekend. As there is so much to do in Medellin (check the things to do section), we also recommend that you spend a few days in the city if your travel plans allow. You can check the hotel recommendations for Santa Fe and Medellin in the travel section. We will provide more details about special rates soon.

Question

What is the currency in Colombia and do I need cash?

Answer

The currency is Colombian Pesos, 1 USD = $4,000-4,500 pesos. Most restaurants, hotels and bars take credit cards but we do recommend that you have some local currency for taxis and street food vendors. There are places to exchange currency in the airport or you can also use an ATM that takes international cards.

Question

Is Medellin/Colombia safe?

Answer

Medellin is a totally safe city for tourists, but like any major urban area, it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit. We recommend that you stay in the safest, most touristy areas (El Poblado is the best area, there are others like Laureles that are also nice and safe). Use taxis or Ubers that you can call, order through an app, or that you get from a registered taxi spot (common in malls and restaurants). Avoid walking at night in less populated or dark areas and be cautious with valuables and don't display expensive jewellery or large amounts of cash.

Question

Should I rent a car or what is the best way to get around?

Answer

Medellin is a hilly city with heavy traffic and a large amount of motorcycles and driving can be stressful. The taxis and Ubers are very affordable and convenient so renting a car is not necessary for your stay in the city. Santa Fe de Antioquia is a very walkable town, and you can easily get a Tuk Tuk for longer distances. We will also provide transportation to Santa Fe during different days/times so you don't have to worry about that. In case you want to go at a different time than what we offer, taking a taxi all the way to Santa Fe is also an option that won't be extremely expensive. If you do want to rent a car, there are a few agencies that you can find at the airport. Localiza is a local company that is reliable and has good reputation. There are also some US based rental car agencies that you can use. Just be aware that some of them don't operate 24h so you want to check that their time works with your travel schedule.

Question

Can I drink the tab water in Colombia?

Answer

The tab water is safe to drink in Medellin and some neighbouring towns, including Santa Fe de Antioquia. If you plan to go to other cities, we recommend you to research it as tab water is not safe to drink in all cities and towns in Colombia. In Cartagena for example you should stick to water bottles.
