We met the old fashioned way... Facebook. Nick messaged Maria in messenger to ask about paddle boarding after months of being facebook friends. After a weeks worth of small talk, he finally asked her to coffee...which she declined, saying she didn’t want to go on a date but would meet up as friends. The day came and Maria almost canceled, but ended up being so glad that she didn’t. After coffee, she went to work and told her coworker that she hoped she didn’t ruin her chances to date this one... Luckily, Nick doesn’t scare easy and quickly asked her out again (this time it was DQ. Nick truly is a romantic). From there the two hit it off pretty quickly and well... the rest is history!
Nick asked Maria’s parents for permission to marry her about two months into them dating. They gave an enthusiastic yes, and thus began the planning. He customized an engagement ring over the next few months, gathered all the necessary supplies for the big day, and arranged for all of their loved ones to be in the same place. Once the day arrived, Nick had Maria’s sister, Emily, take her to their parents for what Maria thought was a going away party for their other sister, Dani, who was moving across the country the following day. They pulled into the driveway where Kylyn, one of Maria’s adoptive siblings, met her with a blindfold to cover her eyes. They led her to the backyard, took off the mask, and Maria was confronted with beautiful signs that read, “Today our lives change forever.” Emily gave Maria her first note and flowers. She read the note and continued down the line- her sister Dani, her aunt and uncle, his mom and grandma, her mother and father- all holding their own flowers and notes that read reasons why he wanted to be with her forever. Once she got to her parents and read her note, they walked her to Nick, who was crying at the end of the line. Nick said, “I didnt know how much i could love someone until i met you.” She said yes!
