We met on a dating app with Benito making a pun almost foreshadowing that he would marry Maria. She found it unique and after messaging each other for a while the two agreed to have their first date with dinner at Olive Garden. The day they had scheduled to meet, Maria had worked a double and had been asked by a friend to drive them to the airport. She had traveled to Phoenix and back [to Flagstaff] that same day. After a long day, she had almost canceled the date but decided to stick through it and Benito had been so charming they decided to get together soon. The next day, they had a second date to get to know each other even more. One week after that first date, the world went into lockdown. Which was devastating for many, the couple included. However, it also brought them closer together, and were inseparable since. After going through a Pandemic and moving across the country we are ready to take the next adventures together as husband and wife.

Around 1 year after we first started dating the biggest challenge in our relationship occurred when Benito accepted a promotion that required him to move to Oklahoma City. During the time before that move, we had an honest conversation about what that meant for us as a couple. Benito had said that he would want her to come with him but would understand if that was too much of a change for a relationship that was this early. We had agreed that she would stay in Flagstaff for a month to finish things up before moving in with him. Finally, the day came that she would move to Oklahoma. After a long 16-hour day of driving, she showed up that night and it was at that moment when he saw her pull into the garage of their new home that Benito knew that he would propose to her. For the next year and half, we grew closer together in our new home and environment. During that time, the two had talked about their future together leading Maria to show Benito the type of ring she would like from a specific company which Benito ended up buying. Maria accidentally found out about the ring when she saw an email notification on his phone. From there, finding the right time to propose took a while, but on a trip back to Arizona a few weeks before they were going to move to North Carolina. Benito knew that he wanted to propose before then and on a trip to Sedona overlooking a scenic view, he finally proposed.
