On May 7, 2022, Eric and I (Margaret) both attended a "A Long-Expected Party," AKA an all-day Lord of the Rings (extended edition) movie marathon, complete with themed meals and events throughout the day. Eric was living in Little Rock at the time, his hometown, but came to Nashville to visit his childhood friends (and party hosts), Zach and JP. Coincidentally, Eric's childhood friend Zach is also one of my friends from Lipscomb. Zach invited me to the LOTR-themed party, a perfect distraction from the dissertation I was writing at the time, and Eric and I met for the first time. The next 14 hours were spent making memes, chanting "Grond!" at the screen, eating Lembas bread, and secretly crushing on each other from across the room. Eric later texted Zach, "Why have you been hiding Margaret from me?" and I texted my sister, "I met this man at hobbit feast and he lives in Little Rock but is moving to Nashville and might be the love of my life." I was (half) joking at the time, but I was right! Long story short, Eric did move to Nashville later that year. We dated briefly and broke up, but both wanted to stay friends (genuinely). Over the next few years, we climbed together multiple times a week, took tennis lessons together, and talked almost every day. It was probably clear to everyone around us that we were becoming more than friends, but they generously let us figure it out for ourselves. We finally started dating again (to the surprise of no one) and the rest is history! To quote the 1977 animated adaptation of The Hobbit, "The greatest adventure is what lies ahead." We're excited to celebrate the start of our next great adventure, marriage, with all of you at our wedding!
