Question

What is the history of The Bridge Building?

Answer

Originally built in 1908, The Bridge Building was a six-story, 5,000-square-foot office building for Nashville Bridge Company (NABRICO). NABRICO became known as the world’s largest producer of inland barges after producing dozens of vessels for the U.S. Navy during WWII. The company was widely recognized for its splashy barge spectacles, where new river barges were dropped into the water in public launching ceremonies. In 2012, The Bridge Building’s revitalization began as a part of the Nashville Riverfront Redevelopment Plan. The modernized building has been recognized as one of the “greenest” buildings in the world. The addition of a geothermal heat pump mechanical system, LED lighting, solar water heating system, and rainwater harvesting system granted The Bridge Building a LEED-Platinum Certification. This platinum rating makes the Nashville Bridge Building the world’s highest-rated building within the Core and Shell category, beating out 4,467 other structures!

Question

What is the history of Riverwood?

Answer

Riverwood Mansion was built in the late 1790′s, by the Porter Family to resemble their home in Ireland. The Metropolitan Historical Commission has identified it as one of Nashville’s most significant historic structures. Originally named Tammany Woods after his family home in Northern Ireland, Riverwood underwent several renovations while the Porter Family owned it. Many experts attribute the Greek revival influences to architect William Strickland, who also designed the Tennessee State Capitol. In 1859 the house was sold to William Frierson Cooper of the influential Cooper family of Columbia, Tennessee. Eventually becoming Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tennessee, Mr. Cooper renamed the mansion Riverwood because of its proximity to the Cumberland River and its forests.
