Marcus and Mary first met when they were both students at Citrus Community College. Believe it or not she made the first move. They both were taking a basketball class, but Mary’s classes were on Tuesday and Thursday, while Marcus’s class were only on Friday’s. Mary decided to show up to the Friday class one day to make up for her missing class earlier in the week. At this point, Marcus and Mary had never seen each other until that Friday. At the beginning of every class, they did warm up drills and stretching prior to playing games. During the drills Mary said something funny that made Marcus laugh. There was a guy in the class that looked like a famous jeweler who was not very well known at the time. Mary said “Woah what is he Ben Baller.” That made Marcus laugh because 1. It didn’t look like him at all and 2. because no one else understood that joke. It wasn't that funny, but it was funny enough to make Marcus laugh. Class went on as usual and then it ended. Marcus was walking to his car when he heard someone say “Hey I like your tattoos.” He turned around and it was that cute girl that made the Ben Baller joke. Mary asked him about his tattoos, complimented them, and asked if they hurt as well as how long it took. He answered the long list of questions and then followed up with "do you have any tattoos?" She said no and laughed. Mary always says that Marcus made the first move, but it was obvious that she made the first move. It was funny to Marcus that someone wanted to carry a full conversation about tattoos without having any themselves. Marcus then asked for her Instagram/Snapchat and decided to scroll through Mary's social media page in front of her face. Mary thought that was so awkward but funny at the same time, because that is a very unusual thing to do. After a handful of conversations and text messages, they had their first date in Pasadena, where Marcus took Mary to Gyu-Kaku and T-Pumps (their favorite boba spot at the time). They were instantly drawn to each other after their first date and spent nearly all their time together from then on—the rest is history.
