Enjoy this recap of our trip to Atlanta that ended in an a surprise proposal.

Proposal Story

7.24.24

Our Engagement Story Let’s start with this: I was completely clueless. I truly believed we were just documenting our first trip to Atlanta — capturing memories, recording moments, nothing more. So every time Marcus wanted to film something, I didn’t think twice about it… though I was definitely a little annoyed. I remember thinking, “Can I please just eat in peace?” Little did I know, every clip was part of something much bigger. On our last day, we went to see Twister in a 4DX theater. The experience was wild — moving seats, rushing wind, even water splashing during the storm scenes. It was fun, but not nearly as intense as Marcus made it seem. On the drive to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, he kept saying he was nauseated and needed to pull over, holding his head, dramatic sighs and all. You would’ve thought he’d just survived the scariest roller coaster on earth. I looked at him like he had lost his mind and said, “Marcus, it wasn’t that bad.” When we arrived at the Botanical Garden — easily one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen — Marcus went right back to recording everything. Halfway through the gardens, we wandered into a greenhouse where an employee was watering flowers. Marcus asked him to record us… but not casually. He gave full creative direction. I immediately tried to stop him, saying, “Marcus, no — he’s working!” But Marcus had already committed. What I didn’t realize was that he was moments away from asking me to be his wife. He was so nervous that when he opened the ring box, it was facing him instead of me — something we still laugh about today. After leaning over to get a look at the ring, I said yes through happy tears and disbelief. It was perfect, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Now, Marcus’s side of the story. Anyone who knows Quasha knows she is nearly impossible to surprise, so pulling this off felt like a mission. Every detail of the trip was planned together, which made sneaking in a proposal almost impossible. From the start, I knew I wanted to propose at the Botanical Gardens, keeping the ring with me the entire trip just in case the right moment appeared. By the time we reached the 4DX theater, I knew the gardens would be my moment. I tracked the movie runtime, nervously checked the time, and as the end approached, the nerves hit hard. Hot flashes, a pounding head, knots in my stomach — I wasn’t sure if it was the ride or the pressure of what I was about to do. At the gardens, I quietly scoped out locations while recording everything, mentally bookmarking the spots she loved most. Time felt like it was slipping away and the gardens were much bigger than I expected, but then we found it. A picture-perfect spot that felt right. Plan A didn’t work. Neither did Plan B. Then, out of nowhere, the employee watering plants offered to take our photo. That’s when everything clicked. I went into full creative director mode, explaining the shot, asking Quasha to stand a few steps ahead of me. The employee had no idea what was coming. When I dropped to one knee and pulled out the ring, his reaction said it all. Quasha turned around in disbelief, tears instantly falling. Time stood still. I was shaking, crying, smiling and so overwhelmed that I forgot to even ask the question and ring still faced me. Through tears and laughter, Quasha leaned over the box and said, “Are you gonna ask me?” That moment — imperfect, emotional, and completely us — is one we will cherish forever.
