A lot of things had to come together perfectly for Grace and Marcus to meet each other. They’re both actually from the San Francisco Bay Area, Pleasanton and San Jose respectively, but Grace’s family decided to relocate which resulted in Grace spending the second half of high school as well as her college education on the east coast. Marcus on the other hand attended college in Logan, Utah. Here’s where things get interesting. After graduating college, Grace’s best friend Melina took a job in Salt Lake City. Grace moved out to Utah with Melina and they ended up living with one of Melina’s coworkers, Karin, who Marcus had befriended when they both attended school in Logan. At this point Marcus and Grace live only about an hour and a half away from each other, but there are still a few more things that had to happen before they would meet. In January of 2018 Marcus’s groomsman, Jake, came out to visit him from California. The two made plans to go see a Jazz game in Salt Lake, but a snowstorm hit Logan the night that the two were supposed to go, so they ended up going the next night. This is significant because they were originally going to be in Salt Lake on January 19, but the snowstorm pushed their trip back to January 20, which is Grace’s birthday. After the Jazz game ended Marcus called his old friend Karin, who was now living in Salt Lake as Grace’s roommate, to see if she wanted to get together with them while they were in Salt Lake. She told him that it was her roommate’s birthday, and that the two of them should meet Karin’s group at a bar in downtown Salt Lake. Now here's when the two finally meet. Once Marcus and Jake got to the bar, it was actually Jake who began talking to Grace first. He quickly pulled Marcus aside to tell him that Grace was from Pleasanton, which sparked a conversation between them. He bought her a drink, they talked for the rest of the night, and a week later the two were on their first date. The rest, as they say, is history.
