When it came time to write their story, neither Rosa nor Marcos wanted to get all sappy and write it, so they asked me if I would do it. Being one of their best friends and living with Rosa throughout the majority of their relationship, I had a front-row seat to watch their love story unfold. So, here it goes... Written, with love, by Amy DeFilippo
Rosa met Marcos’s sister Sabrina through her friend Daniela, Rosa's friend from grad school. After Rosa and Sabrina became friends and starting to hang out, Rosa and Marcos eventually “met” at a bar on St. Patrick’s Day. I use the term “met” loosely because this first interaction consisted of Rosa noticing how awkward Marcos was and Marcos noticing how beautiful Rosa was, but he never had the courage to actually talk to her. Even though they didn’t talk, both of them definitely remembered each other. This trend of hanging out, but not talking continued on for months, through Sabrina and Luveen’s wedding, holiday parties and a Cubs World Series Championship. Their first actual interaction wasn’t until months (and more months) later. We had gone out for Luveen’s birthday and ended the night hanging out at their apartment. It started to blizzard outside and Rosa decided that she needed s’mores. Without any s’more ingredients in the apartment, Marcos trekked out in the blizzard to get Rosa all the fixings. And by all the fixings I mean gourmet s’mores, with Reese’s instead of Hershey bars (yeah she can be a little extra sometimes). I don’t know many people who would do that for just anyone. It was after that night I knew Marcos was in love with Rosa, although I don’t think Rosa was quite convinced yet.
I knew Marcos was the one for Rosa after their first date. Rosa came home happier than I had seen her in a long time. Not only that, but she told me about how easy it was to talk to him and how comfortable she felt around him. That night she had realized how much more they had in common than their mutual love of Cubs baseball. After a couple of months, Marcos finally made things official on February 17, 2017, in the cutest way possible; asking her if she wanted to be “s’more than friends”. From then on things just seemed to fall into place.
They complimented each other really well and appreciated the time they had together due to long-distance and busy schedules. Finally, in January of 2019, Marcos told me he had bought a ring and laid out his detailed plan for the proposal. I tried not to cry as he was telling me about it. Ever since I’ve known Rosa, she told me that she wanted to be proposed to on Wrigley Field; and with their shared love of the Chicago Cubs, it was the perfect location for them both. With all of their family and friends present, on June 29, 2019, Marcos asked Rosa if she wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Rosa is someone who always tries to figure out surprises, but he really got her with this one. She was not suspecting it, which made it the perfect proposal!
