How they met

Ashley and Marco met the old fashioned way. at a bar Rockrest. On Saturdays they had music and cheap drinks and both would go often, but never ran into each other… until they did, one winter night.

Her side: I was with two friends and we were having a good time, we had just arrived when my friend started to talk with someone. Not wanting to be rude I started a conversation with his friend standing beside him. A minute later Marco came walking up with two drinks one for each of his friends. “would you like a drink?” was the first thing he ever said to me. After he gave me the drink I tried to talk to him, and have a conversation but he didn’t say anything and just walked away. My friends and I just enjoyed the music. As my drink started to get low Marco came up to me again “Drink?” and I told him yes. I tried to start a conversation again, but the only reply I got was “My friends are over there” and he took off. Again I emptied my drink and Marco appeared “ Drink?” so I said “yes if you will dance with me” he got my drink at the bar and we walked to the dance floor he immediately started (what he calls now) “dead fish dancing” I laughed, but before the song was even over he was gone again. This went on through the night, he'd get me a drink, I would try to talk to him, and he would run away. The bar was closing and my friend exchanged numbers with his friend. I asked Marco “Would you like to maybe grab coffee tomorrow?” “I don’t drink coffee” at this point I had, just about had enough, “Well do you at least like ice cream?” and we exchanged numbers and planned to meet at an ice cream shop. We met at the ice cream place and we talked and talked ( Not just me this time) we closed the place down. After the date he would text me but he never asked about a second date, so again I asked him “Ice cream?” and we met at another location. We closed that shop down too, but again after the date, he didn’t ask me out again. I was totally fed up and had essentially given up, I would respond to texts but I wasn’t about to ask him out for the third time. Soon however extremely unique flower arrangements would show up on my doorstep almost daily, but still no request for another date. One day I came home from work to find Marco sitting in my front yard, drinking a beer with my father. So at that point, I assumed that he was actually interested. His Side: Now that you've heard Ashley's story which is all lies by the way, well mostly true but I was nowhere near as bad... It was like many Saturdays for my boys and I which meant we'd be at Rock rest. This night was far from ordinary though, on this night everything for me changed. As soon as I noticed some of my friends talking to her friends I knew I had to talk to her... which I later found out I couldn't... so with a little help from some liquid courage I found my way past "drunk?". So we talked and my God the sass had me mesmerized and I was immediately hooked. We eventually made it to the dance floor where I preceded to show her my patented dance move we call the dead fish. And it had her now hook lined and sinker. We then had a date picked out and she again just had me absolutely stunned and lost in time, and the next date, and the next date. Flash forward to 5 years later and here we are through everything all cause of Rock rest.

Dunkin

We had been dating for about a year, Marco and I both were causally looking for dogs (for ourselves not to share) I wanted a poodle and Marco wanted a Pitbull. I went into “tiny town” and saw Dunkin, I loved him instantly Marco however not so much….. but since we were planning on getting our own dogs it didn’t seem to be an issue. Until the meet and greet, “I hate him, he's so yappy. I don’t even want to meet him” but I insisted he at least go into the room with the little dog, who no one wanted. Marco sat down and Dunkin jumped from across the room to get into Marcos's lap and clung to him. The next thing I knew Marco was running to the front desk with Dunkin in his arms to adopt him……. I had just lost my dog. One of the greatest gifts I have ever received was Dunkin getting to meet my father 6 days before he passed away. Dunkin adored my father and wouldn’t let anyone anywhere near him.

The Proposal

The proposal: Marco had made so many comments and hints over the years that he was going to propose that I never took them seriously. We were on vacation to Virginia and we had decided to go to Currituck, North Carolina to see the lighthouse. We began climbing up the rickety steps to the top of the lighthouse, I was doing fine until Marco accidentally tripped me and I caught myself on the steps, but it forced me to look straight down………. I threatened to go back down several times, “ No just A little farther, just go a little farther” Marco kept saying refusing to let me turn around. Near the top he went in front of me ( I almost used this opportunity to turn around) and as I got up to the little opening and stepped onto the grated balcony. Marco was on one knee box open, he was speaking so quickly that I couldn’t understand what he said or asked, not that I even let him finish before saying yes. The ring Marco picked was an extremely unique one( he had it customized) and it was even featured in several ads for the company. Ashley was incredibly picky and insisted on a zero-waste, free-trade, unique ring. Marco knocked it out of the park, with a little help from his best man.
