Philip’s cousins, Angela and Elizabeth, attended the same church and youth group as Rachel. They encouraged Philip to attend the annual youth group retreats. Every year, Rachel and Philip’s path would cross and they became fast friends throughout high school and even into college. Come to find out the retreat center was in Almont, Michigan – the hometown of Rachel’s Maid of Honor, Kayla Phillips.

On an impulse trip to Washington D.C., Rachel and Philip visited the Smithsonian National Zoo. In front of panda exhibit, Philip asked Rachel to marry him. Philip even hired a secret photographer to catch the special moment.

We wanted to have a destination feel to the wedding without a flight or long drive, so the two dogs - Amelia and Watson - can be part of the big day. We love the Traverse City area and once we laid eyes on our venue, we fell in love.
