We met in Georgia when I visited my daughter, Hannah. She introduced me to her neighbor and he wouldn't shake my hand because he was "filthy from planting zucchini". I shared with him my theory about zucchini (if only half the people who normally plant it would plant half as much, there would still be more than enough to go around because nobody really likes zucchini anyway) and he pretended to be offended. The next night at a bonfire we discovered that both of our dads owned Mobil stations (his currently and mine in years past). I knew right then that my dad had sent him to me. By the time I left there to head home, we both knew we were destined to be together. He moved to NY a year later with his beloved dog, Dottie. Since that time we've been playing the game of whether the soap goes ON the kitchen sink or next to it, while silently cursing each other when we move it. While on a vacation with all of my kids in August of 2023 in Outer Banks, we all went to the beach. We were standing in ankle deep water and I looked at John and could see his wheels turning. I asked him what he was thinking about and he responded, "What am I thinking about? I'm thinking I want to spend the rest of my life with you." I said, "Oh.....that's nice. Me too." I saw him make eye contact with Hannah who had the video camera ready to roll because he had shared his plan with her. He then looked at me and said, "So, you'll marry me then?" as he rummaged in his pocket and pulled out the ring box. I said, "Are you sure?" and he responded, "Am I sure? Of course I am!" I immediately started crying - as I always do - and he asked, "Is that a yes then?" I assured him it was. (Please go to the menu bar in the upper right corner to navigate the options.)
