How they Met

Asha and Marché’s story is really about timing — and how sometimes the right person has been in your orbit long before you’re ready to meet them

They met during Pride Weekend in 2019 at Queen City Radio. Marché was there with mutual acquaintances when Asha walked over to say hello—and then she noticed her. Like, really noticed her. “I thought she was beautiful,” Asha says. “She had the prettiest smile and the coolest tattoos, so I said the only thing I could think of: I like your tattoos.” After that night, their paths kept crossing all summer. They’d run into each other at social gatherings and, whenever there was time to talk, they did. They exchanged numbers, and their connection grew quietly in the background—easy, natural, and unforced. In September, Asha saw a birthday “job posting” friends had made for Marché, jokingly searching for her life partner. Asha took her chance, wishing her a happy birthday and asking for an application. Marché laughed and told her to send her résumé—so she did. A few weeks later, they went on their first official date. Marché planned it intentionally: a mid-morning hike at Ault Park. Asha arrived with coffee from Coffee Emporium—carefully checking that Marché’s name was spelled correctly. She noticed, and it mattered. Details always do. They enjoyed each other so much they went to breakfast afterward, talking until they were the last ones there. By November 2019, it was official. By February 2020, the world shut down—and they quarantined together. What could have been overwhelming became grounding: long conversations, deep connection, and learning each other in an honest, steady way. They didn’t fall in love in a straight line. They found each other in the in-between moments; through timing, trust, laughter, and choosing each other again and again. Looking back, it feels like the most “right on time” thing that could’ve happened.
