Marc taught Hip Hop 2 at Westlake Dance Center on Tuesday nights for many years. On April 7, 2009, Sam attended his class for the first time. She didn't talk to him and he didn't notice her that first time. Over the years, Sam attended more often and gained more confidence on the red floor. In 2014, they performed in a piece together choreographed by friend Greg Baja and connected as friends. He teased and critiqued her, and she glared at him. Sam went on to dance in several of Marc's hip hop pieces at the annual Sign of the Times show over the next few years, and they continued to be friends and get to know each other. Over those years, they both crushed hard on one another, but neither thought the other was interested romantically. Sam even tried to set him up with her friends! In the summer of 2017, Marc invited Sam over to his house for a BBQ for his brother Paul's birthday. Was it a date? Probably. Over the next few weeks, they held hands in movie theaters and during Game of Thrones, shared dinners with friends and long walks on the beach. Later that summer, Sam was offered a job as a school counselor in Portland and she accepted. It was a difficult choice, but she felt that if she and Marc had a future, the distance wouldn't stop them. Well folks, it didn't. They made it work between Seattle and Portland, spending many hours on the train or driving up and down I-5. They met up all over the country, from New York City to Palm Springs and even Hawaii. Two years of long distance has been difficult, but it also has brought them closer than they ever expected. When Marc asked Sam to marry him on November 10, 2018 (with friends and family secretly listening on the other side of a partition), she said, "of course I'll marry you!' and now they are so excited to share their special day and the beginning of their lives with all of you.
