We set off on a spontaneous road trip with a few destinations in mind but mostly letting the road lead us. Since our first month together, Marc had promised to show me this “must-see sunset,” and after a year and a half, we were finally on our way to see it. We started our road trip early Thursday morning, reaching Erie, PA by mid-afternoon. We spruced up and headed to Johnson Estate Winery in Westfield, NY. Wandering through the vineyard, we snapped silly photos, tasted wine, and left with a case of our favorites—because why not? After a quick tour of Mercyhurst University, Marc’s alma mater, and a random but lucky casino stop, we made it just in time to the beach for sunset. The spot was magical—a secluded cliff with endless views, like we were at the edge of the world. As I took in the view, Marc asked me to face the water and stand the same way he just did for a picture, which I should’ve known was a giveaway. But there I was, waiting (and getting a bit impatient). It was taking longer because Marc was adjusting the camera to capture the moment on video and he said "one more picture, hold on!" Just as I was about to ask if he got it, he called my name. I turned around, and there he was on one knee. As he asked me to be his wife, I said yes and just hugged him for what felt like forever before he finally said, "Can I put this thing on your finger now or what?". Laughing together, he slipped the ring on my finger! But the night had a twist we have to share...Marc had packed a surprise engagement box to open together, but my blood sugar had other plans, as it often does. A sudden blood sugar drop meant he had to give me a piggyback ride back to the car as fast as possible. It was a beautiful and humorous mix of romance and adventure, just like us, with the sunset sealing the memory of the perfect beginning to forever!
